Victory for Health Action Now!

In March 2010, health insurance reform legislation that improves the health care system for older Americans and their families, was signed into law.

AARP thanks the more than one million activists who made phone calls, sent emails, wrote letters to the editor, attended town halls, and shared their stories.

Because of the tireless efforts of our activists, the final bill contained much needed reforms for seniors, including:

  • Closing the Medicare Part D “doughnut hole” once and for all;
  • Making insurance more affordable for older Americans;
  • Putting an end to discrimination based on pre-existing conditions; and
  • Giving Americans more choices to live independently at home as they age.
